Winter sailing :-)

Barging is a great lifestyle but Lawrence still misses sailing on the sea, so we planned to do some winter sailing in Plymouth. Owning another boat would be both complicated and too expensive so, after a lot of research, we found an old Sadler 32 which we could rent for 10 individual days on a ad-hoc basis. This meant that we could phone and book the boat depending on a reasonable forecast, this would be pretty critical in the winter. Below are some pictures from our first day out.

Lorna rugged up Happy Lawrence

We chose a dry, sunny but cold day at the start of Dec 12 to take over the Sadler and have our first sail. The wind started light and grew steadily to a force 3 to 4, perfect but pretty cold. It meant we got organised and sailing in a light breeze and then could have some fun with the boat. We had good sailing clothes from the days when we used to sail on the East coast from the Humber in the summer so we managed fine off Plymouth in the winter.

Rame head to Mew stone

We sailed out to Rame head and then gybed to cross towards the Mewstone off Wembury before luffing up to beat back into Plymouth sound. The boat came well equipped and well maintained and sailed really nicely.

Happy day

Happy days!

Winter can be good

Back in and secure by sunset but still with a blue sky, what a perfect day!
